NELI Preschool
We are doing NELI Preschool in nursery over the 2025 spring and summer terms. NELI Preschool is a 20-week oral language intervention programme for all children born before 31st August 2021, with additional support for children who need it the most. It is based around the shared book reading of 20 books and learning 82 'special words' throughout the 20 weeks. All children will always benefit from rich language experiences and this programme has strong evidence of helping boost all children's language skills.
The children will have daily sessions that include reading a book, and some special activities to introduce and reinforce the 'special words' of the week. A select number of children will also receive extra sessions in small groups and individual sessions to further support them in their language journey.
At the beginning of each week, we will read a book from the programme. Each day, following the book reading sessions, includes a focus on 'special words' from the book and activities relating to this special word.
NELI Preschool recognises the importance of parental involvement. NELI@Home includes 'home learning links' that include a summary of the book of the week, the 'special words', and some fun home challenges to further support your child's language production and understanding at home. The first book is called 'Neon Leon' and we will be reading this book for a week beginning on Monday, 13th January 2025.
