Early education funding and nursery costs
The Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Provider Agreement relating to Early Education and Childcare states in section 12 Charging – that:
-
12.1 Funded early education is a part time place for each eligible child and must be completely free at the point of delivery
-
12.2 Government funding is intended to cover the cost to deliver 15 or 30 hours a week of free, high quality, flexible childcare. The 15 or 30 hours must be able to be accessed free of charge to parents. There must not be any mandatory charges for parents in relation to the free hours. It is not intended to cover the cost of meals, consumables, additional hours or additional services.
-
12.3 The provider can charge parents for the following extras in connection with the free hours, but these charges must be voluntary for the parent: • Consumables to be used by the child, such as nappies or sun cream • Meals and snacks consumed by the child • Extra optional activities such as events, celebrations, specialist tuition (for example music classes or foreign languages) or other activities that are not directly related or necessary for the effective delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework. Providers can also charge parents for any additional, private paid hours according to their usual terms and conditions provided taking up private paid hours is not a condition of accessing a free place.
Since September 2025, all early education funded hours can be accessed at Queens Park Montessori with no additional costs to yourselves. We do make a consumables charge of £1.50 per hour for morning sessions and 60p per hour for the afternoon to cover all food provided throughout the day. We provide a morning and afternoon snack, hot lunch, pudding, and light tea (please see menu example). This charge is voluntary. You have the option to opt out of paying the consumables charge but will need to provide food for your child to consume whilst here. Any food brought into the nursery must comply with our healthy food policy (available on request).
Additional non-funded hours are charged at an hourly rate on a sliding scale dependent on the number of hours your child attends and how old they are. Please contact us using the 'contact us' form if you would like a specific example of what it would cost you based on your needs.
